Allow Contacts Access on Android

Sharing a digital key is fastest when the Nimbio app can read your phone’s contact list — you pick a name instead of typing a phone number. Android controls that with a one-time permission, and you can turn it on or off anytime. Here’s how.

The easiest way: allow it when Nimbio asks

The first time you share a digital key from the Nimbio app, Android shows a system prompt asking whether Nimbio may access your contacts. Tap Allow and you’re done — no settings digging needed. If you tapped Don’t allow back then (or don’t see the prompt anymore), use either method below to turn it on.

Method 1: from the Nimbio app’s settings

The fastest path if the prompt is gone.

Open your phone’s Settings app

Swipe up on the home screen and tap the gear icon, or swipe down from the top and tap the gear in the corner.

Tap Apps

Then tap See all apps if your phone shows it, and find Nimbio in the list.

Tap Permissions, then Contacts

Nimbio’s app info screen lists everything the app can request.

Select Allow

That’s it — head back to the Nimbio app and share your digital key by picking a contact.

Method 2: through the Permission manager

Useful if you want to see every app’s contacts access in one place.

Open your phone’s Settings app.

Tap Security & privacy, then Privacy controls (on some phones this is just Privacy).

Tap Permission manager, then Contacts.

Tap Nimbio in the list, then select Allow.

Menu names vary a little by phone maker and Android version — if you don’t see an exact match, look for the closest label. These steps follow Google’s current Android Help guidance (August 2026).

Troubleshooting

Nimbio isn’t listed under Contacts in the Permission manager +
  • Android only lists apps that have asked for a permission. Open the Nimbio app and start sharing a digital key first — then Nimbio appears in the list (or the system prompt simply appears and you can tap Allow right there).
Want to turn it back off? +
  • Follow either method above and select Don’t allow instead. You can still share digital keys — you’ll just type the phone number yourself.
