How do the app and the gate controller actually talk to each other?
They don’t talk to each other directly — each side connects independently to Nimbio’s enterprise-grade cloud infrastructure over its own internet connection. The Nimbio app on your phone reaches Nimbio’s servers over your phone’s own internet connection (Wi-Fi or cellular data), exactly like any other app. The Nimbio controller at the gate reaches those same servers over its own dedicated, built-in cellular LTE connection — not your phone’s connection, and not the property’s Wi-Fi. When you tap “Open” in the app, the command travels from the app to Nimbio’s servers, then from the servers to the controller’s cellular connection, which closes a relay contact wired into your gate operator, door, or lock — the same contact a clicker or keypad would trigger.

What is a cellular smart access controller?
A cellular smart access controller is a small device that connects to your existing gate, door, or lock hardware and opens it on command over the mobile network instead of a local Wi-Fi router. Nimbio’s controller receives commands from Nimbio’s cloud servers over its built-in cellular LTE connection and closes a dry relay contact wired into your operator — the same contact a clicker or keypad would trigger.
Why does Nimbio use cellular instead of Wi-Fi?
Gates and call boxes are usually far from any building, where Wi-Fi is weak, unreliable, or absent. Nimbio ships with a pre-installed multi-carrier SIM that dynamically connects to the strongest available tower — AT&T, Verizon, or T-Mobile — so it works at the property line with zero Wi-Fi required. Does Nimbio replace my existing gate controls?
