What does the controller do?

Works with what you already have

Wires in parallel to any existing electronic gate operator, buzzer, or call box — no rip-and-replace. Existing clickers and keypads keep working alongside it.

No Wi-Fi required

Runs on a pre-installed multi-carrier LTE SIM (AT&T, Verizon, T-Mobile), so it works anywhere there’s cellular coverage — no local network needed at the gate.

Unlimited digital keys

Share and revoke access instantly from the app — unlimited users and guest keys, each individually controlled from anywhere.

Hardware & Electrical Fact Sheet

  • Relay: Premium Omron mechanical relay — minimum 50,000,000 rated operations

  • Connectivity: Pre-installed multi-carrier LTE SIM — dynamically selects the strongest available carrier
  • Wiring: Installs in parallel to the existing gate operator’s dry-contact input — existing hardware keeps working
  • Certifications: FCC, RoHS, REACH, CE (RED), PTCRB, IC, GCF, JATE, Telec, RCM
  • Lifetime hardware warranty: if the controller ever stops working for any reason, Nimbio provides a prompt replacement

How does cellular access compare to Wi-Fi bridges and legacy keypads?

The Nimbio controller runs on cellular LTE instead of a local Wi-Fi bridge, GSM auto-dialer, or a shared keypad code — here’s what that means in practice.

Feature Nimbio (Cellular LTE) Wi-Fi bridge Shared keypad code
Requires local network at the gateNoYes — range-limited to router signalNo, but no smartphone control either
Individual, revocable digital keysYesDepends on systemNo — one code for everyone
Smartphone / CarPlay / Android Auto openYesOnly if internet is upNo
Vulnerable to local network sniffingNoYesN/A, but code leaks over time

Frequently asked questions

Does the $299 price include the monthly subscription?

No. The $299 is a one-time hardware cost for the controller only. An ongoing monthly subscription is required to cover cellular service, support, and maintenance. Call (800) 353-3422 for subscription pricing before purchasing — residential is flat-rate per home, commercial is flexible based on active users.

Will this work with my existing gate, buzzer, or call box?

In almost all cases, yes. The controller wires in parallel to any electronic gate operator, buzzer system, or call box with a 6.5V–24V power source and a dry-contact input. If you’re unsure whether your specific hardware is compatible, call us before ordering.

Do I need Wi-Fi or a landline at the gate?

No. The controller runs entirely over a pre-installed multi-carrier LTE SIM. As long as there’s cellular coverage at the location, no Wi-Fi, internet connection, or phone line is needed.

Do I need a professional installer, or can I install it myself?

Most customers install it themselves — it wires in parallel to your gate operator’s existing dry-contact input, with Bluetooth provisioning to connect it to the app in about 60 seconds. If you’d rather not do the wiring yourself, we recommend using a licensed installer, especially for commercial, HOA, or multifamily properties where local code compliance may apply.

What gate and door brands is the controller compatible with?

Any electronic gate operator, buzzer system, or call box with a 6.5V–24V power source and a dry-contact relay input — this covers most major brands including LiftMaster, FAAC, Linear, Apollo, Ghost Controls, and Elite. Call us if you want to confirm compatibility with your specific hardware before ordering.

Is this the same hardware used across Nimbio’s residential and commercial solutions?

Yes. The same $299 controller powers every Nimbio deployment — single-family homes, multifamily and gated communities, commercial properties, and every industry-specific solution Nimbio offers. Only the subscription pricing model changes between residential (flat-rate per home) and commercial (flexible per active user).
