How an NFC tag gets set up

There’s no DIY programming step — Nimbio’s NFC tags use a crypto-authenticated chip that’s professionally programmed before it reaches your gate.

1

Request a tag

Contact your installer or Nimbio support to get an NFC tag programmed for your gate.

2

Your installer mounts it

Peel and press the tag firmly onto the call box or gate panel — a flat, visible surface at phone height works best. Avoid placing it directly on bare metal (metal blocks NFC signal); use the plastic housing or a spacer sticker if needed.

⚠ Metal surfaces: NFC signal cannot pass through bare metal. If the call box face is metal, mount the tag on the plastic trim, a non-metal cover plate, or use an anti-metal NFC label (HF RFID on-metal label).

Test it

1

Unlock your phone screen (NFC doesn’t work when the screen is off on most devices).

2

Hold the back of your phone against the sticker for 1–2 seconds.

3

If you’re signed in and hold a key to that gate, it opens automatically. Otherwise, your phone opens a prompt to sign in and open it yourself, or view the community directory to reach a resident.

4

The directory should display resident listings. If it’s empty, the admin needs to ensure at least one resident has GuestView enabled in their Nimbio app.

Troubleshooting

Phone doesn’t react when tapped +
  • Make sure the phone screen is unlocked — NFC requires an active screen on most devices.
  • Check that NFC is enabled: iOS: Settings › General › NFC (enabled by default on iPhone 7+). Android: Settings › Connected Devices › NFC.
  • The NFC antenna is usually in the middle or top-back of the phone — try repositioning.
  • If the sticker is on bare metal, the signal is being blocked. Relocate it to plastic trim.
It says “Directory not available” +
  • GuestView is toggled OFF for this community. Go to Community Manager › [Community] › Members › Allow directory viewing and switch it ON.
Directory is empty / no residents listed +
  • Residents must opt in to appear in the directory. Ask residents to open their Nimbio app › GuestView and toggle Show in directory ON.
  • Admins can also force-show residents from Community Manager › [Community] › Members › [Member] › Hidden from Directory (set to OFF).
Can I get or program my own NFC tag? +
  • Not yet — NFC tags are professionally programmed by Nimbio and installed by your installer. Contact support if a gate on your property doesn’t have one yet.
