Gate Access for People with Disabilities
Getting to the gate can be the hardest part of a delivery, a ride or a visit. With Nimbio, residents open their property’s gate or building door from their phone, wherever they are, and let drivers, caregivers and family in without going outside.
How can a person with a disability open a gate without going to it?
A person with a disability can open a gate or building door without going to it by using a cellular gate entry app such as Nimbio. Nimbio connects the property’s existing gate or door to the cellular network, so a resident opens it with a tap in the Nimbio app, from inside their home, from the car or from anywhere their phone has service. There is no need to wheel or walk out to the gate, hold a fob to a reader or reach a call box.
Who does phone-based gate access help?
Phone-based gate access helps residents who find the trip to the gate hard or tiring, including people who:
- use a wheelchair, scooter or walker
- have limited reach or grip, which makes keypads, fob readers and call boxes awkward
- live with chronic pain or fatigue, where every trip outside costs energy
- are recovering from surgery or an injury
How do I let a delivery or ride-share driver in without going to the gate?
Nimbio gives residents two ways to let a driver in from inside their home, and neither one needs the gate code. Both work where the property uses GuestView, Nimbio’s visitor directory.
Answer a GuestView request from your phone
The driver scans the QR code or taps the NFC sign at the gate, and a directory opens in their browser. They select your name. You get a text message with a link; tap it to start a video call, one-way by default so you see the driver, or two-way if you turn on your camera. Tap the open button to let them in. The driver installs no app.
Give the driver an access code
Create an access code in the Nimbio app before the delivery, choose which gate or door it opens, and set an expiration date or the hours it works. The driver scans the QR code or taps the NFC sign at the gate, finds your name in the directory that opens in their browser, and enters the code. The gate opens, with no app or account needed on their end.

How do caregivers, aides and family members get in?
With Nimbio, each caregiver, aide or family member can have their own access on their own phone, and the resident who shared it can take it back at any time.
- Family Keys: household members get their own digital key in the Nimbio app.
- Recurring Keys: access on a repeating schedule, for example a home health aide every Tuesday and Thursday from 9 AM to 5 PM. The key works only during that window.
- Expiring Keys: a shared key that stops working at the date and time you choose, for a family member staying for a week or a caregiver covering a short stretch.
- GuestLinks: for someone who doesn’t have the Nimbio app. An Event Link works only during the hours set for it, and a Limited Use Link stops working after a chosen number of uses. The visitor taps the link and a button for each gate; no app or account. Where a property lets members create GuestLinks, residents can make their own.
Can I open the gate from my car?
Yes. Nimbio has native CarPlay and Android Auto integration, so the gate appears on the car’s screen and opens with one tap, without picking up the phone. The Nimbio tile appears automatically, with no pairing step. CarPlay needs iOS 16 or later.
How do I get Nimbio at my property?
The property installs Nimbio, so the request goes through whoever runs it: the property manager, the HOA board or the owner. A resident can send this page to them. Nimbio also has pages for other property types.
For the property manager or HOA board
- Nimbio connects to the gate operator or door hardware already in place. See how it works.
- Residential properties pay a flat rate per home, not per user, with unlimited family keys and guest access at no extra cost. See pricing.
- Nimbio, a cellular gate entry system, handles more than 7 million gate opens a year (365-day count, July 2026).
Frequently asked questions
Can a resident get Nimbio on their own?
No. Nimbio is installed by the property, so a resident asks the property manager, HOA board or owner to add it. Once it is installed, each resident uses the Nimbio app on their own phone.
Does a delivery driver need the Nimbio app?
No. A delivery driver scans the QR code or taps the NFC sign at the gate and uses the directory that opens in their browser, either to reach the resident through GuestView or to enter an access code.
Do I have to be home to let someone in?
No. A GuestView request arrives as a text message with a link, so a resident can answer it and open the gate from anywhere their phone has service.
Can I stop a caregiver’s access?
Yes. A resident can take back a shared key at any time, a Recurring Key works only during its scheduled hours, and an Expiring Key stops working on its own at the date and time set for it.
