How do I share access to my gate with someone?

Share a Family, Doorbell, or Recurring digital key from the Nimbio app in under a minute — no fobs, no physical keys, and you can revoke it any time.

Which key type should I share?

Each one you share is a new digital key minted on the recipient’s own account — not a copy of yours. Revoking your key cuts off every digital key you’ve shared from it.

Family Key

Works like your own key — opens the gate any time, no restrictions.

Doorbell Key

The holder requests entry; you get a notification and 5 minutes to open the gate for them.

Recurring Key

Only works during the schedule you set — ideal for a housekeeper or regular service visit.

Sharing a key

1

Open Sharing and pick the key

Tap Sharing in the bottom navigation bar. Tap the key for the property you want to share access to.

2

Tap “Share this key”

On the Manage Key screen, tap the Share this key button below your Key Details.

3

Choose the digital key type

Tap Create on the card for Family Key, Doorbell Key, or Recurring Key — whichever fits this recipient.

4

Enter the recipient

Type a name to search your contacts, or type a phone number directly to share with someone not in your contacts.

5

Finish sharing

On the Finish Sharing screen: leave Allow Key to Share off unless you want this person able to create their own keys from yours, confirm their phone number, optionally tap Manage Notifications to change from the “Never notify me” default, then tap Create.

6

Send the key

On the Key Created screen, send the link via Text Message, System Share, or Copy to Clipboard, then tap Done.

Changing notifications on a digital key you’ve already shared

1

Tap Sharing, then tap the key for that property.

2

Under “Click on a key below to modify it,” find the specific person and key type you shared, and tap it.

3

Tap Manage Notifications and adjust how you’re alerted when that key is used.

Don’t see a “Share this key” option?

Nimbio support can set a key share depth — a property-wide limit on how many times a key can be re-shared down a chain, configured on request. If that limit has been reached on a key, the Share button won’t appear on it — this doesn’t affect your other keys. Contact your property manager or admin if you believe this is unexpected, and they can reach out to Nimbio support on your behalf.

Frequently asked questions

What’s the difference between a Family Key and a Doorbell Key? +

A Family Key lets the holder open the gate themselves, any time. A Doorbell Key doesn’t open the gate directly — instead it notifies you when the holder wants in, and you have 5 minutes to open it for them.

Can I stop someone from re-sharing the key I gave them? +

Yes. When you share a key, leave the “allow this person to create keys” toggle off and they won’t be able to re-share it further. This is separate from the property-wide key share depth, which is configured by Nimbio support, not by property managers or admins directly.

Can I revoke a key after I’ve shared it? +

Yes — go to Sharing, select the key, and switch it off. This takes effect immediately, and also disables any keys that were re-shared from it.
