How do I check whether a gate is open or closed?

The Nimbio controller reports the gate’s real physical position back to the app, so you can check status live from anywhere — no need to be on site.

“Gate Status” — a short walkthrough of the status indicator on the key screen.

How gate status works

1

Hardware-backed, not a guess. The Nimbio controller has two general sense lines that report the gate or latch’s physical line state directly back to Nimbio’s servers.

2

Shown on the key screen. Each latch shows a status line — for example “Status: Offline” or “Held open” — found below the open button in the app. Administrators can configure a custom status label per latch (see below).

3

Checkable from anywhere. Because status reports over cellular, you can see whether a gate is open or closed without being on site.

Configuring latch status as an admin

Property administrators have a dedicated screen for per-latch status configuration.

1

Open Latch Status in your Community Manager portal

Tap the Admin tab in the app, then tap the menu icon (the three lines, top left) and select Latch Status. (You can also log into community.nimbio.com on a desktop or any web browser.) This is where per-latch status settings for your property are configured.

Push notifications: if you’ve configured key-activity notifications, you’ll also be alerted when a key is used — in addition to being able to check live status any time.

Frequently asked questions

Can I see gate status from anywhere, not just on site? +

Yes. The app shows live gate status over cellular, so you can check whether a gate is open or closed at any time, from anywhere.

What does “Held open” mean on a key’s status line? +

It means that gate currently has an active hold-open in effect. See Hold Open for how to schedule or end one.
