How do I schedule my gate to stay open (Hold Open)?

Hold a gate open right now, for a set number of hours, until a specific time, or on a recurring schedule — all from the Community Manager portal.

Three ways to hold a gate open

All three live on the Hold Opens page for each gate, reached from the app’s Admin tab (or Community Manager on the web).

Recurring Event

Repeats on the days and time window you choose every week — e.g. weekdays 8 AM–6 PM for business hours.

Hold Open Now

An immediate, one-tap action. Choose a fixed duration (1 hour, 4 hours, or until a specific time later today) or an Indefinite hold that stays open until you manually end it.

One Time Event

Schedule a single future date and time window in advance — useful for a one-off event like a party or a delivery day.

Scheduling a Recurring Event

The most common setup — a repeating weekly schedule, like business hours.

1

Open the Hold Opens tab in your Admin Portal

Tap the Admin tab in the app, then tap the menu icon (the three lines, top left) and select Hold Opens. (You can also log into community.nimbio.com on a desktop or any web browser.)

2

Tap “New Recurring Event”

Starts a repeating weekly schedule rather than a single date.

3

Set the schedule

Pick the days of the week and a start/end time. The event can be toggled Active or Inactive later without deleting it.

Using Hold Open Now

The fastest option when you need the gate open right away.

1

Open the Hold Opens tab in your Admin Portal

Tap the Admin tab in the app, then tap the menu icon (the three lines, top left) and select Hold Opens. (You can also log into community.nimbio.com on a desktop or any web browser.)

2

Tap the dropdown next to Hold Open Now

You’ll see 1 hour, 4 hours, and any upcoming clock times still ahead today (e.g. Until 6pm), plus a divider and Indefinite (until ended).

3

Confirm

Picking Indefinite shows a confirmation dialog first, since the gate will stay open until you manually end it. Any other option applies immediately.

Ending an indefinite hold: once a gate is on an indefinite hold, the button changes to End Hold Open — tap it to return the gate to normal operation.

Scheduling a One Time Event

For a single future date and time window — a one-off event rather than a repeating schedule.

1

Open Hold Opens for the gate

Same starting point as above: Admin tab › menu icon › Hold Opens (or community.nimbio.com on the web).

2

Tap “New One Time Event”

Starts a single scheduled event rather than a repeating one.

3

Set the date and time

Pick the specific date and start/end time for this one occurrence.

Managing existing schedules

The Hold Opens page also shows the next upcoming occurrence, a Postpone All Hold Opens option, and a Recent Changes log of hold-open activity for that gate over the last 30 days.

Frequently asked questions

Can residents start or stop a hold-open themselves? +

No. Residents only see a “Held open” status on their key when a hold-open is active — starting or ending one is a Community Manager action only.

What does “Postpone All Hold Opens” do? +

It lets you skip the next scheduled occurrence for a gate without deleting the underlying One Time or Recurring Event — useful for a single exception like a holiday closure.

Is there a record of hold-open changes? +

Yes — the Hold Opens page for each gate shows a Recent Changes log covering the last 30 days of hold-open activity.
