What do the LED lights on my Nimbio device mean?

Three onboard LEDs — the yellow PWR light, the blue NET light, and the red STATUS light — give you a quick-reference diagnostic without opening the app or calling support.

For: Installers Category: Hardware & Installation

Start with the yellow PWR LED

Always check power before diagnosing anything else — a network or status issue can’t be read correctly if the board isn’t powered.

Off

Control board lacks power. Check the power connection before anything else.

On

Control board has power. Move on to the NET and STATUS lights.

NET (Modem Status) LED — Blue

Tells you whether the cellular modem is connected.

Off — modem has not been powered on.

Solid blue — modem is actively searching for a network.

Blinking blue quickly — connected to the network and operating normally.

STATUS (Board Status) LED — Red

The most detailed of the three — tells you exactly where the board is in its startup and connection sequence.

Off — board doesn’t have power.

Solid red (over 1 second) — board is booting up.

Two red blinks every 2 seconds — the board isn’t fully connected yet. This covers both a cellular network the modem can’t reach and a network connection that can’t reach Nimbio’s servers.

Brief bright red flash — the board detected a change in the physical sense lines. This appears as a short flash layered on top of the normal breathing pattern, not a separate steady state.

Breathing red (slowly bright to dim) — board is operating normally.

Board seems unresponsive? If the board hits a problem it can’t recover from, it can cut its own power for a second or two and fully reset itself — a built-in “turn it off and on again.” A brief moment of dark LEDs isn’t necessarily a broken board; give it a moment before assuming a hardware failure.

Frequently asked questions

Where do I start diagnosing a problem? +

Check the power source first — the yellow PWR LED should be solid. Then check the blue NET and red STATUS lights and match their flashing frequency to the tables above to isolate a network problem from a server-connection problem.

The red STATUS LED blinks twice every 2 seconds — what does that mean? +

The board isn’t fully connected yet — either the cellular network isn’t reachable, or the network is fine but the board can’t reach Nimbio’s servers. Check antenna placement and signal strength for the install location first; if the light doesn’t clear, contact support.

My board’s lights suddenly went dark — is it broken? +

Not necessarily. The board can self-recover from an unrecoverable fault by cutting its own power briefly and fully resetting. Give it a minute — if the yellow PWR LED doesn’t come back on after that, contact support.
