Wiring guide: Nice Apollo 1050

This guide shows where each wire from the Nimbio terminal strip lands on the Nice Apollo 1050’s Series 1000 control board, and which operator setting to change. Gate Status: wired on the main board. Sense 1 and SC connect to the board’s OUT 1 relay. With OUT 1 set to MOVING, Sense 1 reports whether the gate is moving or at rest, and Nimbio maps those two states to the labels shown in the app.

Important: Standby mode must be off. Terminal 20 (24V) turns off when the operator enters Standby, and Nimbio loses power with it. If Standby has to stay on, for example on a solar-powered operator, power Nimbio from a separate 12–24V AC or DC power supply instead.

Before you start

  • Power the operator down at its supply before touching any terminal.
  • The Nimbio terminal strip has eight terminals: PWR+, PWR-, Sense 2, SC, Sense 1, NC, C and NO. This guide wires Sense 1 and SC; Sense 2 is not used with MOVING (see “Connections”).
  • Power: PWR+ and PWR- land on terminals 20 (24V) and 21 (Power GND), with Standby mode turned off. Terminal 20 turns off in Standby, and Nimbio loses power with it. If Standby has to stay on, use a separate 12–24V AC or DC power supply instead.
  • You need a small screwdriver for the terminal screws.

If Standby has to stay on, for example on a solar-powered operator, power Nimbio from a separate 12–24V AC or DC power supply instead. Sense-line polarity does not depend on the wiring. Nimbio maps each sense line’s triggered and untriggered state to an Open or Closed label after installation. If Gate Status shows the opposite of the physical gate, contact Nimbio support to have the labels switched; no rewiring is needed. When the wiring is done, restore power at the supply. A Nimbio support team member then calls to test the gate before you close the panel.

Settings on the operator

Set Aux Output 1 to MOVING. The operator’s menu offers NO PROGRAM, OPEN, CLOSE, MOVING, TIMER 1 and TIMER 2 for this output; this guide uses MOVING, which Nimbio has found gives the best Gate Status result. CLOSE has not been tested with the Nimbio board.

Gate Status

Gate Status: wired. Sense 1 (terminal 1) and SC (terminal 2) connect to the OUT 1 relay. With Aux Output 1 set to MOVING, that relay is active while the gate is opening or closing. With OUT 1 set to MOVING, Sense 1 reports whether the gate is moving or at rest, and Nimbio maps those two states to the labels shown in the app.

No suitable output on your operator? A magnetic gate switch can report the gate’s position instead: wire its two leads to Sense 1 and SC for fully closed, or to Sense 2 and SC for fully open. The switch must be a dry contact that puts out no power of its own; if yours puts out power, add a relay that turns it into a dry contact.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Nice Apollo 1050 need an expansion board for Gate Status? +

No. Sense 1 and SC land on OUT 1 of the main Series 1000 control board, terminals 1 and 2. Sense 2 is not used with MOVING.

Which Nimbio terminals open the gate on the Apollo 1050? +

NO and C, wired to In1 (terminal 16) and GND (terminal 17). The Nimbio relay closes NO to C, which the 1050 reads as a dry-contact input on In1.

Is the Nimbio NC terminal used on the Apollo 1050? +

No. The operator input takes the NO and C pair, so NC stays empty.
