Wiring guide: LiftMaster CSL24UL

This guide shows where each wire from the Nimbio terminal strip lands on the LiftMaster CSL24UL, and how to set the Expansion Board’s relay switches. Gate Status: requires the LiftMaster Expansion Board. The main board takes the open command; Sense 1, SC and Sense 2 land on the Expansion Board’s AUX RELAY 1.

Note: This operator cannot supply enough continuous power for Nimbio. Use a separate 12–24V AC or DC power supply.

Before you start

  • Power the operator down at its supply before touching any terminal.
  • The Nimbio terminal strip has eight terminals: PWR+, PWR-, Sense 2, SC, Sense 1, NC, C and NO.
  • Power: PWR+ and PWR- go to a separate 12-24 V AC or DC power supply, not to the operator board. The board’s accessory output is rated 500 mA, but Nimbio installations powered from this board have had unstable power.
  • Gate Status needs the Expansion Board installed. Without it the Nimbio board can still open the gate.
  • You need a small screwdriver for the terminal screws.

The board’s accessory output is rated 500 mA, but Nimbio installations powered from this board have had unstable power. Sense-line polarity does not depend on the wiring. Nimbio maps each sense line’s triggered and untriggered state to an Open or Closed label after installation. If Gate Status shows the opposite of the physical gate, contact Nimbio support to have the labels switched; no rewiring is needed. Settings on the operator

On the Expansion Board, set AUX RELAY 1’s three switches (SW4, SW5, SW6) to OFF, OFF, ON. In the CSL24UL manual’s relay table this selects “Energizes at open limit”.

Gate Status

Gate Status: requires the Expansion Board. With AUX RELAY 1 set to OFF, OFF, ON the relay energizes at the open limit. Sense 2 on NO closes when the gate is fully open, and Sense 1 on NC closes whenever the gate is away from the open limit. Which physical terminal a sense line lands on does not decide whether Gate Status shows Open or Closed — Nimbio sets that per device after installation. If Gate Status ever shows the opposite of the physical gate, contact Nimbio support to have the labels switched; no rewiring is needed.

No suitable output on your operator? A magnetic gate switch can report the gate’s position instead: wire its two leads to Sense 1 and SC for fully closed, or to Sense 2 and SC for fully open. The switch must be a dry contact that puts out no power of its own; if yours puts out power, add a relay that turns it into a dry contact.

Frequently asked questions

Does the LiftMaster CSL24UL need an expansion board for Gate Status? +

Yes. The sense wires land on AUX RELAY 1 of the Expansion Board. Opening the gate works without it, through NO and C on the main board’s EXIT pair (EXIT and its Com).

Can the Nimbio be powered from the CSL24UL’s Accessory Power terminals? +

No. Power Nimbio from a separate 12-24 V AC or DC power supply, not from the operator board. The board’s accessory output is rated 500 mA, but Nimbio installations powered from this board have had unstable power.

What do the three switches on AUX RELAY 1 do? +

They select what the relay reacts to. OFF, OFF, ON makes it energize at the open limit, which is the setting this guide uses.

Is the Nimbio NC terminal used on the CSL24UL? +

No. The EXIT input takes the NO and C pair, so NC stays empty.
