Wiring guide: Max Controls 1500

This guide shows where each wire from the Nimbio terminal strip lands on the Max Controls 1500’s MATRIX 1 control board. Gate Status: wired on the main board. Sense 2, Sense 1 and SC connect to the board’s GATE STATUS block, which reports the gate open and the gate closed as two separate signals.

Note: This operator cannot supply enough continuous power for Nimbio. Use a separate 12–24V AC or DC power supply.

Before you start

  • Power the operator down at its supply before touching any terminal.
  • The Nimbio terminal strip has eight terminals: PWR+, PWR-, Sense 2, SC, Sense 1, NC, C and NO. This guide wires every terminal except NC (see “Connections”).
  • Power: PWR+ and PWR- go to a separate power supply, not to the operator board. The board’s 24V/GND terminals are its own power input, not an accessory output, so do not power the Nimbio from them. The Nimbio accepts 6.5 to 24 V AC or DC; either supply lead can go to either PWR terminal.
  • You need a small screwdriver for the terminal screws.

Nimbio NO (green) → STRIKE on the MATRIX 1 control board NC: Not used Cautions Do not power the Nimbio from the operator’s 24V/GND block. The manual describes it as the board’s own power input (“24V Power for Matrix 1 ONLY”), not an accessory output; give the Nimbio its own supply. Sense-line polarity does not depend on the wiring. Nimbio maps each sense line’s triggered and untriggered state to an Open or Closed label after installation. If Gate Status shows the opposite of the physical gate, contact Nimbio support to have the labels switched; no rewiring is needed. Gate Status

Gate Status: wired. Sense 2 and Sense 1 connect to the board’s GATE STATUS block (OPEN and CLOSE), and SC connects to the block’s shared COM. The OPEN relay activates when the gate reaches the open position, and the CLOSE relay activates when the gate reaches the closed position, so Gate Status has a separate signal for fully open and for fully closed. Sense-line polarity does not depend on the wiring. Nimbio maps each sense line’s triggered and untriggered state to an Open or Closed label after installation. If Gate Status shows the opposite of the physical gate, contact Nimbio support to have the labels switched; no rewiring is needed.

No suitable output on your operator? A magnetic gate switch can report the gate’s position instead: wire its two leads to Sense 1 and SC for fully closed, or to Sense 2 and SC for fully open. The switch must be a dry contact that puts out no power of its own; if yours puts out power, add a relay that turns it into a dry contact.

Frequently asked questions

Does the Max Controls 1500 need an expansion board for Gate Status? +

No. Sense 2, Sense 1 and SC land on the GATE STATUS block of the main MATRIX 1 board.

Which Nimbio terminals open the gate on the Max Controls 1500? +

NO and C, wired to STRIKE and GND. The Nimbio relay closes NO to C, which the 1500 reads as a strike (open) command.

Why does the Max Controls 1500 use both Sense 2 and Sense 1? +

The board’s GATE STATUS block has two separate relays sharing one common: one activates at the open position and the other at the closed position. Sense 2 reads the open relay, Sense 1 reads the closed relay, and SC is their shared common.

Is the Nimbio NC terminal used on the Max Controls 1500? +

No. The operator input takes the NO and C pair, so NC stays empty.
